About the day
Sign up to our taster day to discover what it would be like to study your chosen subject at degree level, meet current staff and students, as well as explore campus and the benefits of studying at Reading.
As an attendee you will participate in interactive talks exploring two key areas of psychology, Forensic Psychology and Educational Psychology. These sessions will provide you with an understanding of the course content and what it's like to actually study these topics at university-level.
Take part in interactive taster sessions
These sessions will be led by our expert academics and delivered in Foxhill House, our dedicated Law building.
Can You Trust Your Eyes? The Science of Eyewitness Identification
Do you think that you would easily identify a criminal that you saw in poor lighting or from far away? Research reveals that factors like low lighting, distance, and disguises dramatically reduce our ability to see and later recognise faces, making eyewitness identification less reliable than we often believe.
This session explores the fascinating psychology behind eyewitness memory and identification accuracy, using research examples to show how environmental conditions create visual thresholds that can make the difference between accurate identification and potentially life-changing mistakes.
Metacognition and Smarter Learning
What if the secret to learning better isn’t studying harder, but thinking smarter? In this session, we’ll explore metacognitive skills – how to understand and take control of your own learning. You’ll discover practical strategies to boost memory, motivation, and performance in and beyond the classroom.
This taster day will be held at our Whiteknights campus and will run from approximately 10:00 – 16:00 (or 17:00 with an optional campus tour), allowing you time to really immerse yourself in the subject and relevant department.
