Public Policy

Offered jointly by the Department of Economics and the Department of Politics and International Relations, our interdisciplinary degree in Public Policy uses insights from both areas to develop policymaking skills.

At the University of Reading, we’ll equip you with knowledge of developments in the global economy and how these are linked with political changes at the national and international level.

We have a strong focus on applied research with an emphasis on the policy implications and you’ll have the opportunity to specialise in the economics and/or politics aspects of public policy.

In the Department of Politics and International Relations, 97% of our research outputs are rated world leading or internationally excellent, meaning that the University of Reading is 6th in the UK for research outputs. (Times Higher Education analysis of the latest REF 2021 – Politics and International Studies, when scoring by GPA Output)

For Economics, 100% of our research impact has been classed outstanding or very considerable. (REF 2021, combining 4* and 3* submissions – Business and Management Studies, and Anthropology and Development Studies)

Our staff are approachable, helpful and passionate about their research. As leading experts in their research, they often feature in the local and international media for their insights into global affairs.

We typically teach you in small, interactive groups combining different learning methods that include traditional lectures and seminars along with simulation activities and online tutorials, and you’ll benefit from a supportive studying environment within our friendly and inclusive international community.
