Apply through Clearing 2025 using our online form
A step-by-step guide

How to apply using our online application form

The form is optimised for desktop use, but you can use a tablet or mobile device to apply.

On this page is a step-by-step guide to help you quickly complete the form.

1: About you

  • If you have previously applied via UCAS, include your 10-digit UCAS personal ID.
  • Enter your last name and first name, date of birth, and gender.
  • Enter your address, phone number (including country code), and email address. We’ll contact you via email, so make sure your email address is correct.

Important: you won’t be able to move to the next section until all required fields (with an asterisk *) are completed.

2: More about you

  • You will be asked to confirm if you have previously studied at the University of Reading. Tick Yes if you have studied with us previously in any capacity and for any amount of time, as this information will be relevant when assessing your application.
  • Please type in your country of domicile (where you normally live), your nationality (the country for which you hold a passport), and your country of birth. Please note that countries are not listed alphabetically, so be sure to type in your answer.
  • If you are a non-UK or Republic of Ireland national, you will likely require a student visa, so you should select Yes to the question Do you need a visa to study in the UK?.
  • If you have a different type of visa or settled/pre-settled status, please upload evidence of this in the Upload Documents step, along with a copy of your passport if possible.

3: Choose a course

  • Use the Search for a course to find the course you want to apply for. Type in one keyword from the course title, for example, Mathematics, Placement or BSc, or type in the UCAS course code.
  • The search will take up to 30 seconds to retrieve a list of courses. The retrieval list may be more than 10 items, depending on your search criteria. Click on Next to scroll through the list.

  • Once you’ve found the course you’d like to apply for, tick the box under the Select column, then select Confirm Course.
  • You can only select one course, and you must confirm your selection in a pop-up box. This action cannot be undone.

4: Qualifications

  • Tell us what qualifications you hold – A levels/BTEC/IB (or equivalent) as well as English, mathematics and science GCSEs and subject grades. For international students, include the results of your IELTS or equivalent English language test.
  • For each qualification subject, you’ll need to add a new qualification (for example, each A level will need to be entered separately).
  • Include in the Notes section anything you need to tell us about your qualification. For example, if you intend to have them re-marked, or you are unsure what your GCSE equivalent in English, mathematics and science is.
  • The qualification field is free-text and we’ve put most qualifications in the search function. For standard A level qualifications please include a hyphen: A-L and then select AL GCE A-level. If your qualification isn’t in the list, select Other and then put the full qualification title in the Notes section below.

  • Include the subject you’ve taken (for example, biology or English literature). This is also a free-text field if your subject isn’t on the list.
  • Finally, select your grade. You can free type in the field if your grade scale isn’t showing.

5: Upload documents

  • Upload documents relevant to your application, such as qualification certificates and final transcripts. If you’re an international student, include a copy of your passport, and if possible your English language test results, such as IELTS or TOEFL.
  • If you don’t have the documents to hand, don’t worry. We can still process your application without them, but if we’ve made you an offer and you want to accept your place, you’ll need to send us your documents at this point.

6: Last step

  • If there’s anything else you’d like us to consider as part of your application, include that here. If we’re not able to make you an offer on your first-choice course, we'll automatically assess your application for a suitable alternative course. If there’s another course you’d like us to consider that may not be similar to the one you’ve selected above, let us know here.
  • If you are attending a University of Reading event or have a University of Reading event code, enter the code here. For instance, if you’re attending an overseas event where we’re issuing on-the-spot offers, please ask the Reading staff member for the code and enter it here so we can process your application faster. Or, if you’re an overseas agent applying on behalf of a student, enter your code here and include your agent details in the Last Step field so we can record this against your agency.

7: Confirm and submit your application

  • We will send an auto-confirmation once you have successfully submitted your application so check your email (including any junk/spam folders).
  • Our decision-makers will review your application and update you as soon as possible.
