Overview of feedback
Key feedback included the infrequency of buses, the need to improve existing footpaths, additional cycle paths and improving safety for cyclists on the main roads.
Wokingham Borough Council is obliged to deliver additional footpaths and cycle paths in Shinfield. The University can support this delivery but it is not our role to drive the programme of improvements. Shinfield Parish Council is aware of any suggested improvements submitted as part of the consultation. Alternatively, you can get in touch with your local borough and parish Councillors directly with feedback about suggested improvements to cycle safety and additional cycle paths.
The University has and continues to introduce further cycle paths across University land that act as short cuts off the main road, helping to improve safety for cyclists.
Increasing the frequency of the buses depends on demand. If Reading Buses see evidence of increasing demand then there will be justification to increase the frequency. Feedback about the infrequency of buses in Shinfield will be raised with Reading Buses by the University.
The University is working closely with Shinfield Parish Council, Wokingham Borough Council and the Ramblers Association to take a proactive approach regarding footpath improvements.
Shinfield Parish Council will be looking into improving key road crossings to make it safer for pedestrians to move around the parish.
The University and Shinfield Parish Council are proposing the establishment of a Shinfield Footpaths and Cycle Group which shall meet twice a year. The group will be able to raise concerns relating to footpaths and cycle paths, alongside ideas to improve active transport and the experience of those who walk and cycle in Shinfield.
This group is open for anyone to join and if you would like to be involved or find out more, please email community@reading.ac.uk. We will promote the date and time for the meeting which will be held at Shinfield School Green Centre and includes a walk of the Ridge SANG.
