University Corporate Services Directorate
The University Corporate Services Directorate is led by Julie Rowe, Chief Legal Officer at the University of Reading.
It comprises four services and offices within the University.
Planning & Strategy Office
The Planning & Strategy Office:
- provides the University Executive Board (UEB) with information, interpretation, analysis and commentary on data to assist in strategic planning and decision-making
- informs, supports and coordinates the development and implementation of strategic projects
- provides Schools, Departments and Research Divisions with management information for use in their planning.
Governance
The University of Reading operates under the terms of its Royal Charter, granted in 1926.
The governance of the University takes the following form:

Office of the Chancellor & Vice-Chancellor
The University of Reading's Chancellor is Paul Lindley OBE, who plays a leading role as a social entrepreneur, working for a range of human rights, education and children’s health causes.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Van de Noort, has general responsibility to the University governing body – the Council – for maintaining and promoting the effectiveness, efficiency and good order of the University.
Legal Services
The Legal Services Department at Reading provides legal, regulatory and commercial advice across a diverse range of projects.
They offer advice to:
- the University Executive Board and its individual members
- Heads of School, Heads of Function and Deans
- Other professional services within the University
- Staff acting on University business (subject to approval).
