Professional services directorates

Research & Innovation Directorate


The Research & Innovation Directorate is led by Dr Karen Henderson.

The Directorate makes a significant contribution to the research, innovation, teaching activities and aspirations of the University. This includes our active involvement in a broad range of measures, including:

  • the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)
  • Research Excellence Framework (REF)
  • National Student Survey (NSS)
  • Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF)
  • other university rankings and recognised national and international standards.

We work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders. These include undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, academics, external clients, external partners and the local, national, and international community.

We consist of five areas within the University.

Research, Engagement and Innovation Office


The Research, Engagement and Innovation Office is led by Dr Anne-Marie van Dodeweerd and works to:

  • develop and secure research and innovation funding projects
  • enhance the impact of our research and knowledge
  • facilitate relationships between business and academia
  • make REF preparations including impact case studies and a research culture project.

Doctoral and Researcher College


The Doctoral and Researcher College supports doctoral and researcher staff, and is led by Professor Adrian Williams and Dr Elena Bedisti. The College:

  • maintains a registry for all doctoral research students
  • provides information and development of doctoral opportunities
  • provides support for doctoral grant funding
  • delivers the Reading Researcher Development Programme, doctoral and researcher training, and networking opportunities.

Library


The University Library is led by Sue Egleton. The Library:

  • provides information resources to support teaching, learning and research
  • develops students’ academic and information literacy skills
  • supports the management, communication and preservation of University research
  • contributes to the wider world of scholarship by collaborating with other organisations.

Museums & Collections


Museums and Collections is led by Kate Arnold-Forster, and works to:

  • provide access to the University’s nationally and internationally significant museums and collections
  • support innovative research and teaching across a broad spectrum of disciplines
  • foster external partnerships, public engagement, community programmes and the dissemination of research outputs.

Technical Services


Technical Services:

  • provides practical class support in specialist areas such as workshops, laboratories and in the field
  • supports research in specialist areas
  • promotes compliance in specialist areas
  • advises on specialist building, facility infrastructure and associated business continuity.
