Women's History Month: event highlights

The full calendar of events taking place at the University and Reading Students' Union for Women's History Month in March is now available.
Women’s History Month was founded in the 1980s and is observed every March, recognising women's past and present contributions to society, while continuing to advocate for the changes needed to realise a more just future.
The month also encompasses the UN’s International Women’s Day, on 8 March.
Highlights from the University’s celebrations this March include:
- The Edith Morley Lecture with Dr Rhian Taylor (13 March) - a UoR alumna who is now an IT trailblazer, working at a global pharmaceutical company. She'll talk about gender equality and her journey in academia and industry.
- Extraordinary Stories From Ordinary Women (7 March) - a celebration of five women in Reading and the work they do to make our community better. Featuring speakers from Smart Works Reading and Akua Wood of Shea Butter Cottage.
- Votes for Women: Where do women sit in politics today? (20 March) - a lively and enlightening talk with Dr Jacqui Turner, Associate Professor of Modern British Political History.
- Careers Champion Series with Professor Joy Singarayer (6 March) - listen to Meteorology colleague Joy’s story, her research on Interactions: Climate, Environment, Human, as well as her commitment to Inclusivity: culture, environment, equity, opportunity.
- Navigating career and personal development beyond HE (6 March) - hosted by SAGES and open to all staff.
- Women’s Health cafes - plus events to mark International Women’s Day
- Sex Discrimination training - all month on UoR Learn
- Recommended reading and display board (18-27 March) - exhibition in the Library Foyer to learn about the histories of inspiring Black women.
The full calendar of events for Women's History Month provides many diverse opportunities to recognise women's contributions, reflect on progress made, and discuss what work remains to be done.
