Earth and food sciences shine in Guardian University Guide

The University of Reading has ranked third best in the UK for Food and Nutritional Sciences courses in the Guardian University Guide 2027, and fourth for earth sciences subjects. 

High rankings in a range of subjects reflect the University of Reading's strong teaching and learning offer across a wide range of science, social sciences, arts, humanities and business subjects. These include:  

• Nutrition and Food Science, ranked 3 from 31 in the UK 
• Earth and Marine Sciences, ranked 4 from 39 
• Education, ranked 14 from 90
• Marketing and Public Relations, ranked 12 from 80
• Film Production and Photography, ranked 16 from 75
• Chemistry, ranked 9 from 48 

A University of Reading spokesperson said: "These rankings reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff, and a clear understanding of what matters most to our students and our academic community. We are determined to deliver the best possible opportunities and education for our students. 

“As we mark our centenary year, we remain committed to that same hard work and focus, ensuring Reading continues to be a force for positive global difference through teaching, research, and impact on the world." 

Overall, the University of Reading climbed to 55 in the Guardian University Guide 2027, published today (Saturday, 12 September). 

This placement marks a rise of ten places from the 2026 league table, which compares 123 universities across the UK.
