Ukrainian refugee scholarships for degree study at Reading
22 April 2022
Ukrainian refugee students will be offered full scholarships to study at the University of Reading, as part of the University’s response to the Russian invasion.
Ten new scholarships specifically for Ukrainian students starting courses this academic year, 2022/23, are available through the University’s existing Sanctuary Scholarships Scheme, which was introduced for sanctuary seekers (people with refugee, humanitarian protected or asylum seeker status) in recognition of the disruption to education that displaced people experience. The new scholarships for Ukrainian students are offered in addition to 12 existing awards, open to displaced students from around the globe.
The scholarships for Ukrainian students include a full tuition fee waiver and a bursary payment of £5,000 for each year of study for new entrants to undergraduate courses or postgraduate taught courses who have entered the UK under the Ukraine Family Scheme or the Ukraine Sponsorship (Homes for Ukraine) scheme.
In addition, the scholars will be eligible for a full fee waiver of the tuition fees for the University’s 11–week English Language programme (starting in June 2022), as well as reimbursement of the cost of a single English Language test.
Paul Inman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) at the University of Reading, said: “Life for many people in Ukraine has been torn apart by the Russian invasion, with millions fleeing the country in search of safety.
“We can all play our part in supporting the Ukrainian people and the University of Reading is proud to offer help and support to those who wish to continue their education, despite the unbelievable challenges they may have faced in recent months.”
Applications for eligible students are now open and the deadlines for these are as follows:
- Pre-sessional English awards AND undergraduate or postgraduate taught awards (June 2022 entry): 6 May 2022
- Undergraduate or postgraduate taught awards ONLY (September 2022 entry): 4 July 2022
In addition to the 10 scholarships available for Ukrainian students, a further 12 scholarship awards are available for all other sanctuary seekers. The above deadlines apply.
