Reading to host DSA 2023 conference
17 October 2022
The Development Studies Association’s (DSA) annual conference in 2023 will take place at the University of Reading from 28 to 30 June. The fourteenth edition of the renowned conference will be organised and hosted by academics from across the University’s Global Development Research Division.
The DSA conference is the most important in the field of development studies in the UK and will invite over 500 participants from across the globe to Reading’s Whiteknights campus to discuss and debate new research, approaches and ideas. The hybrid format will also allow participants to join the conference online, making it an innovative and inclusive event.
In 2023, the conference theme will be ‘Crisis in the Anthropocene: Rethinking connection and agency for development’. Conference delegates will discuss how human activity has become a dominant force shaping the global environment and how these impacts interact with existing development challenges and inequalities.
Dr Alex Arnall, Research Division Lead for Global Development and lead organiser of the conference said: “The Anthropocene is producing complex global development challenges that scholarship and research is struggling to come to terms with. We are excited about the convening potential of the conference to provide a productive platform to discuss these issues and potential solutions.”
Professor Dominik Zaum, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring together research partners in Reading and demonstrate the University’s longstanding commitment to sustainable development and good governance.”
The Call for Panels for the conference is open from 10 October until 21 November 2022. Submissions are encouraged from convenors who reflect a diversity of institutions and geographies, and which involve colleagues from policy and practice as well as academia.
