University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Rainfall Rescue: Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) was interviewed by BBC Breakfast on BBC One / BBC News Channel and the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 on data from his Rainfall Rescue project data being published, which saw thousands of volunteers transcribe millions of rainfall observations and extend the national rainfall record back to 1836. The Telegraph (and on its front page in print) – who are also using the climate stripes as a visual on the environment section of their mobile website (see attached)-, Guardian, Independent, Daily Mail, BBC, Evening Standard, Yahoo!, Aol, Express & Star, TVN, The Argus, Berkshire Live, Wales Online, Eurek Alert, Today UK News, Mogaz News and Oxford Mail and BBC Radio Scotland and around 150 other regional titles all reported on the project's success. The Conversation also publishes an article by Professor Hawkins on the project. The Met Office also runs a blog on its website on the archived records that the project focused on. Read our news story.

  • CNN, WRAL, News Channel 3, ACB 17 News, Local News 8, KTVZ, Citizen Digital and several others cite calculations by Professor Paul Williams (Meteorology) on the added emissions resulting from rerouted flights avoiding Russia's airspace.

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • India Education Diary, India Gazette, Environmental News Network, News Wise, Big News Network, The Free Press Journal, ANI News, Azo Cleantech, Science Daily, and Lokmat Times report on new research from the University on the relationship between forest loss in India and climate change, quoting lead author of the study, PhD researcher Alice Haughan. Read our story.

COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic

  • Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) is quoted by the Daily Mail, Mogaz News, Today UK News, Express Digest, News Amed, and others on the UK's level of public immunity; by E News, Bisnis, Politi Fact, and RCTI Plus on the coincidental nature of Moderna's patented Covid DNA; China Dairy HK on discrediting the inevitable mildness of Covid; and he spoke to BBC Radio Berkshire on the likelihood on a move towards restrictions as cases go up. 
  • Dr Jayne Morriss (Psychology) is quoted by Scientific American on her research on the psychological distress some people feel because of continuous bad news and uncertainty, partly due to the pandemic. 
  • Medical Xpress and Today UK News mention collaborative research from the University on how the pandemic influenced people's morals.
