#ShowYourStripes: In advance of #ShowYourStripesDay next Tuesday (21 June), the University has partnered with Reading Today (print also) and Wokingham Today (print also) for a #ShowYourStripesDay special, highlighting stories about the stripes and how they are being used to highlight climate change. These include: What are the stripes?, Story of the stripes, What can I do as #ShowYourStripes day comes round?, and Stripes hit the road in bus partnership.
#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment
- Professor Hannah Cloke (Meteorology/Geography) spoke to The Independent on how the media portrays heatwaves and why this can be dangerous. The story also appears in Yahoo News UK. Prof Cloke also spoke to iNews (print also) about creating a ‘cool room’ during heatwaves.
- A new book, co-written by Stephen Burt (Meteorology), on the changing weather in Durham since the 1800s is featured in The Chronicle in Newcastle (print).
COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic
- Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) spoke to The Mirror about the current wave of Covid infections and a possible link with the Jubilee weekend. His comments were also picked up by Metro, The Express, MSN, Belfast Live and several other news sites around the UK and internationally.
Cost of living crisis: Matt Daley, Head of Student Financial Support and Customer Service, spoke to BBC Online about students who are financially struggling with rising costs.
