Heatwave: Read our expert comment round-up

  • Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography/Meteorology) was interviewed by ABC News in Australia, BBC World Service Radio and BBC Radio 4 on the UK extreme temperatures. She is quoted by Grist and Essex Live on further heatwaves in the near future; by The Herald (and in print), Yahoo!, Games Industry, The Free Press Journal, Tree Hugger and The Pig Site on the need for action to mitigate the impacts of global warming.
  • Professor Nigel Arnell (Meteorology) is quoted by The Sunday Times (in print), Financial Times, Today UK News, Pedfire, J News, and Public News Time on adapting infrastructure to better deal with extreme heat.
  • The Reading Chronicle mentions the University Atmospheric Observatory's official temperature recordings during the heatwave. 
  • Dr Stephen Burt's (Meteorology) article on The Conversation on hotter nights as a result of global warming is republished by Inverse.

COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic

  • Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) was interviewed by GB News and Times Radio on WHO's recent declaration of Monkeypox as a global health emergency, and he is quoted by Cairns Post on New Zealand's high level of protection against Covid. 
  • Stuart Brown (Digital Technology Services), is quoted by Datamation on the University permanently adopting some digital learning methods, first used during the pandemic.

Ukraine: Professor Marko Milanovic (law) is quoted by The Star, Web Noviny, New Telegraph, EU Today, Kyiv Post, B92, Archy Newsy, and Prime News Ghana on Russia's theft of steel worth £500m from Ukraine. 

#UniForReading: reaffirming our role as a civic university
