FinTech is a rapidly expanding sector within the financial industry. You’ll study the core concepts and practises of financial technology, and learn how technological advances have necessitated change throughout the industry.
This four-year course develops the knowledge and skills to navigate these changes, as you acquire a deep understanding of finance and financial services. You’ll also gain expertise in programming and financial applications, and learn how to apply your technological skills to real-world problems. Flexible study options
After the first year of your BSc Finance (FinTech) with Placement Year degree, you’ll have the option to transfer to any of our other specialist pathways:
Each pathway is designed to help you understand particular challenges within finance and how to respond to them.
You could also transfer to the general BSc Finance course, where you’ll still be offered a wide range of optional modules in your second and final years – allowing you to tailor your learning to your individual interests.
We also offer two other variations of this course: BSc Finance (FinTech), a three-year course without a Placement Year; and BSc Finance (FinTech) with Study Year Abroad, a four-year course with a year studying overseas instead of on placement.

Put your understanding of financial systems and capital markets into practice in the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) Centre’s dealing rooms, the largest non-investment bank facilities of their kind in Europe.
Here you can learn the secrets of trading, build your own asset portfolio, develop your financial analysis skills by processing complex data, and gain useful exposure to a 'real-life' market setting.
Placement Year in industry
A key feature of this degree is the opportunity to complete a one-year industry placement between your second and final years of study, to further develop your knowledge, skills and experience. A successful industry placement could lead to a job offer with your placement company upon graduation, as well as providing plenty of opportunities to develop a professional network.

You’ll learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and self-guided study. This will provide the opportunity to discuss subject materials in an in-depth way with your lecturers and fellow students.
Experts from from Henley Business School will introduce you to the:
- fundamental principles of accounting, finance and economics
- quantitative techniques of finance
- role of finance in business and society
- ethics required to work in the finance industry.
As your studies progress, you’ll explore the key concepts of financial technology, including:
- the management of information systems
- programming for finance

You’ll learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and self-guided study. This will provide the opportunity to discuss subject materials in an in-depth way with your lecturers and fellow students.
