Become a Staff Forum employee representative
04 September 2024
If you want to lend your voice to supporting your colleagues at the University, why not join the Staff Forum as a representative and make a real difference?
As a rep, you could bring your skills and experience to improve working life at Reading in all sorts of ways. You’ll take part in meetings with University leadership and influence the decisions that matter to us all, putting forward the concerns and matters of interest to the wider staff body.
You can also offer advice to colleagues one-to-one, guiding them through challenges at work and helping find solutions.
You’ll be supported by your fellow Staff Forum representatives, and work closely with HR and the University’s senior leadership team.
You can also help organise social events and actively shape the staff community at Reading.
Who does the Staff Forum represent?
Colleagues at grades 1-5 are actively represented by the Staff Forum, with the Staff Forum helping the University to inform and, where appropriate, formally consult with employees at those grades.
Read more about how the Staff Forum supports you.
The Staff Forum comprises Employee Representatives from all areas of the University.
Colleagues at Grade 6 and above should seek formal trade union representation through the University and College Union (UCU). However, they can still become a Staff Forum rep and still get informal support, share their views on what’s happening at the University and take part in community events through the Staff Forum.
How can I apply?
To apply to be a Staff Forum rep, please complete the nomination form and send to Nicola Johnson, HR Partner, at n.j.johnson@reading.ac.uk by 31 October 2024.
You can either nominate yourself or a colleague, with their agreement.
