Andrew Grice to retire as Director of Finance
03 October 2024
Andrew Grice has announced he is to retire from his Director of Finance role next spring.
He will step down on 30 April 2025 after a 40-year career, mostly spent in higher education.
Andrew joined the University of Reading in 2017 as Director of Finance. He was made a member of the University Executive Board (UEB) in October 2022.
He was last year appointed as one of the eight Heads of Directorate in our new Professional Services structure, leading the Finance Directorate.
On top of his day-to-day role, Andrew was active in other aspects of University life, including being a regular volunteer at open days, student careers events and community engagement activities.
Andrew’s time at Reading followed stints in senior finance positions at the University of Bristol and University of Southampton.
Andrew originally graduated with a BA in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences from Oxford, before qualifying as an accountant and working in New Zealand for a number of years.
Prior to his university roles, he worked for a biotechnology and biological sciences research council institute.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are indebted to Andrew for the capable and knowledgeable manner in which he has led our financial operations over the past seven years.
“Despite the financial challenges we have faced, including a global pandemic, he has not wavered from his measured approach and has always provided reassurance to other UEB members and Council.
“I speak for the entire senior leadership team, his Finance colleagues and, I’m sure, colleagues across the University when I say he will be missed. We all wish him well in his retirement.”
