Supporting student wellbeing
01 November 2024
We've refreshed our Supporting Student Wellbeing webpages to ensure that the resources and advice are up to date, including a new form for reporting student concerns.
As ever, the resource features dedicated pages for different wellbeing issues, including loneliness, stress, sexual abuse and financial hardship. These contain advice on handling the initial conversation, when these should be reported, immediate action that can be taken, and a list of relevant University and external support services to point the student towards.
We’ve also updated our Concerned about a student quick guide, offering an at-a-glance reminder of the ways to help students in need.
The advice is intended to help any colleague that interacts with students during their work, such as in academic tutor meetings or conversations about other matters. Whatever your role, it's still worth being aware of where to find the guidance, as on a busy campus, any one of us could encounter a student that needs help and advice.
The pages include advice on providing initial, informal support or a listening ear if you become aware of a student facing a wellbeing issue, and subsequent actions to take if necessary.
Serious concerns should always be reported and students signposted to specialised support from trained professionals at the University. The guidance provides links and information on the correct ones to use depending on circumstances.
Don't forget: these webpages can be easily accessed at any time from the In Focus sidebar, on the right side of the Staff Portal homepage.
