Abandoned bike locks to be removed from racks
22 May 2024
Bike locks left on racks will be removed this summer as part of regular maintenance of our bike storage facilities.
A large number of locks, unattached to bikes, have built up on railings in bike sheds and undercover storage areas across campus in recent months, with some having been abandoned for some time. These create an eyesore and can make it more difficult for other cyclists to secure their bikes.
Any locks let abandoned on railings after the summer term ends on Friday 7 June will therefore be removed by Security over the course of a few weeks.
Please collect any unattached locks from railings before this date.
Stickers are being placed on bike locks that appear to be abandoned to help notify cyclists before the end of term.
We also ask you to take your bike lock away with you bike at the end each the day. This good practice will help keep our facilities tidy and functional.
Plans to improve the security of our bike storage facilities on campus are in progress, with an update expected this summer.
