ECR conference: have you booked your place yet?
12 March 2024
All early career researchers are strongly encouraged to attend the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Conference 2024 to celebrate the work of researchers at Reading and get useful advice about career progression.
This year’s annual conference will feature a panel of researchers sharing their career progression experiences, an entrepreneur guest speaker and much more.
The conference is organised by the Doctoral and Researcher College and takes place on Tuesday 16 April, from 12:00-17:00 in the Meadow Suite, Park House, Whiteknights campus.
Why come along?
- Hear from a distinguished panel of researchers about how they progressed in academia and have your questions answered in an informal Q&A session.
- Listen to guest speaker Dr Fiona Marston, a biotechnology entrepreneur who has founded and developed biotech businesses notably in the field of anti-infectives.
- Share your experiences as a Postdoc, Research Assistant or Research Fellow.
- Meet fellow researchers and hear about some of their exciting work.
- Expand your network at Reading and make new connections with colleagues from outside of your School.
Who can attend?
All researchers at Reading and partner organisation on campus are welcome to attend to network, visit the exhibition and watch the presentations.
An early career researcher is generally defined at Reading as 8-10 years post PhD award, however anyone who thinks of themselves as an ECR and would benefit from joining our community and accessing our career development opportunities is welcome.
The Doctoral and Researcher College are especially keen to support researchers on fixed-term contracts, particularly Postdoctoral Researchers, Research Assistants or Fellows.
The Concordat for Researcher Development specifically states that researchers should have the opportunity to take a minimum of 10 days a year (pro rata) for professional development events like this one.
If you have any questions, please contact Sue Glover, Researcher Development Project Officer, or email the Doctoral and Researcher College.
