Staff appreciation event: thank you to colleagues
20 June 2024
As we get ready for our staff appreciation event on 21 June, Vice Chancellor Professor Robert Van de Noort has recorded a message of thanks to colleagues for the hard work and dedication that they have shown in the past academic year.
In the past year, there have been many successes of which we can all be proud. We were named number one in the People and Planet League, hosted another successful Community Festival, and continued to deliver excellent teaching and research.
Robert said: “Reading is nothing without its people, and it is your hard work every day that makes this University a wonderful place to work and study”.
Celebrating Our Staff
Examples of this hard work and the talents of our colleagues will be shared in a Celebrating Our Staff exhibition in the Library foyer, as part of Staff Appreciation on Show Your Stripes Day.
The exhibition will share some award winners and under-the-radar achievements that exemplify our colleagues’ contribution to the University’s continued success. You can visit between 21- 28 June.
Among the activities is a From projects to inspire our local community to supporting our students, and much more, we share a snapshot of University life through the stories of staff. They include:
- Nileema Ali, who organised a visit day for girls of South Asian heritage, encouraging them to think about future study and a career in STEM.
- Lewis Mills, who helped widen access to our Library to alumni and our local community.
- Rachel Alipour, who relaunched in-person Student Life events, giving students a sense of place and belonging on campus.
Don’t forget to visit the Palmer Quad and 3Sixty tomorrow (Friday 21 June, 11:00 -15:00) as we gather to celebrate and say thank you at our Staff Appreciation event on Show Your Stripes Day.
Highlights include fairground games, 50% off lunches from our University Street Food Stall – plus a free ice cream courtesy of the Staff Forum!
You can also visit representatives of the Sustainability Services team, Staff Forum and Staff Networks. See the full programme for more.
Show Your Stripes
This celebration is again being held on Show Your Stripes Day, when people around the world unite to share the climate stripes graphic created by our very own Professor Ed Hawkins.
You can join this movement by downloading stripes for countries, states, and now more cities than ever, at showyourstripes.info.
Look out on the Staff Portal next week for a roundup of the different ways in which the world showed its stripes this year.
