See graduate outcomes for your department
18 June 2024
Graduate outcome data is available for every subject department at the University, allowing colleagues to identify and trends and changes.
This is the fifth round of data from the Graduate Outcomes survey, which is run by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) to improve understanding of the experiences and career paths of students after they leave higher education. It covers the period 2021/22.
Our Careers team have again produced individual departmental reports alongside the previously used Tableau Dashboards, in order to highlight key stats and metrics for colleagues across the university.
This data will be of particular interest to Heads of Schools, Teaching and Learning Deans, School Directors of Teaching and Learning, Directors of Teaching and Learning, and leaders in Admissions, Student Support, Marketing and Planning departments, as well as all those working on employability initiatives.
Some key stats to note from the latest data:
- Overall, 93% of Reading graduates are in work or further study within 15 months of the end of their course. Of those in full-time employment, 83% are in graduate-level roles.
- 55% of Reading graduates are in full-time employment 15 months after the end of their course while 11% are in full-time further study.
- The average salary of Reading graduates for those in some form of employment is £28,179.
- 83% of Reading graduates said that their activity at the time of the survey was meaningful and important to them.
These statistics are based on our analysis of HESA data © HESA 2024, Graduate Outcomes Survey 2021/22; includes first degree responders only.
Accessing the data
To access the tableau dashboards and Departmental reports, all staff are encouraged to request access to the Graduate Outcomes Results MS Teams channel, where all updates and new data releases will be shared going forward.
Heads of Schools, T&L Deans and SDTLS should have received an email from Louise Thomas-Burt, Employability Data and Systems Manager, containing links to the relevant 5-page reports.
We are asking these colleagues to encourage all staff members within their School and/or department to take a look at their own results and make themselves aware of the Graduate Outcomes survey.

About the data
Data from Graduate Outcomes is regularly used by the Office for Students for monitoring purposes, such as the Teaching Excellence Framework, and for benchmarking, and also used by league table compilers to help generate their career and employment-related statistics.
The Careers team is also working on acquiring the sector comparison data that will be released later in the year. This will give us a picture of position in the sector, as a whole and by subject area.
Colleagues are welcome to join the Graduate Outcomes Results team for updates and announcements on this dataset.
For any other questions, contact Louise Thomas-Burt in the Careers team.
