Get the assistance you need with the Estates Helpdesk
26 June 2024
As well as logging routine repair and maintenance requests, the online Estates helpdesk can be used to start conversations about ideas to revamp spaces on campus and seek advice from the Estates team.
Whether it’s something small like a squeaking hinge, a more serious concern in need of attention, or even ideas to rethink the way you use working or teaching spaces, logging the job through the Estates website is the best way to get the help you need.
A skilled team including plumbers, electricians, carpenters and more work alongside local contractors to respond quickly to urgent repairs, as well as on projects to improve spaces to meet the changing needs of students and staff.
How to get help
Simply fill in the online form with as much detail as possible, and someone from the team will be in touch.
If you’d like to make minor improvements yourself without calling in the experts, don’t forget to get the right approvals in place first.
Top tips
Here are some other ways that you can help ensure that everyone gets the support that they need in a timely manner.
- Be as accurate and proportionate as you can when describing an issue, without overstating the problem to seem more urgent than it really is.
- Do not approach Maintenance colleagues directly for seemingly quick jobs, even if it’s similar to something they’ve helped with before. Instead, log them properly and accurately using the online reporting system.
- Get your requests in as early as possible, especially if you’d like work to be complete ahead of an event or important date. Estates colleagues are always happy to be as flexible as possible to get work done ahead of important deadlines – but last minute requests can’t always be accommodated.
Urgent fixes
If you have an immediate problem that’s quickly getting worse or risks immediate health and safety, you can contact the Estates Service Desk for urgent help.
Please think carefully before using this option. We want to stop problems from escalating and causing costly damage, or hurting someone. However, in a small number of cases recently, this route has been misused, with colleagues exaggerating the problem.
It might be tempting as a way to get your issue to the front of the queue, but as every job is assessed it probably won’t work and instead could hold up genuinely urgent repairs.
