Diversifying Leadership programme - apply now!
23 August 2024
Women and colleagues from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds at the University can now apply for places on leadership skills development programmes.
The Aurora and Diversifying Leadership programmes, run by Advance HE, provide development opportunities for colleagues in these groups who are considering taking their first steps into a leadership role.
The University offers sponsored places on the programmes every year, as part of our investment in developing a diverse leadership and commitment to being an institution where everyone can fulfil their full potential.
Applications for both programmes are welcomed from Academic and Professional Services staff up to, and including, Associate Professor/Grade 8.
Diversifying Leadership
Diversifying Leadership was developed by Advance HE in direct response to the under-representation of leaders from BAME backgrounds in UK higher education.
It’s a blended learning programme, with a mix of online and in-person sessions based around a regional cohort, offering a safe and encouraging environment to share experiences and learn from others.
For more information and details on how to apply, please visit the Staff Portal Diversifying Leadership programme webpage.
Application deadline extended to Sunday 8 September 2024.
Professor Allan Laville, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, said: "Being a sponsor on this programme was a brilliant experience. The sponsor training from Advance HE is very insightful and supports you in planning your sponsorship meetings.
"Throughout the meetings, it was great to learn more about my colleague who was completing the programme including a focus on lived experience. It was a space for both of us to share experiences and systemically plan next steps for their career planning."
Aurora (FULL)
Aurora is a women-only leadership development initiative facilitated by Advance HE.
It aims to encourage women in higher education to think of themselves as leaders and to develop leadership skills.
If you are starting to think of moving into a leadership role, the programme offers an ideal opportunity for development. Some previous managerial experience would be beneficial but is not essential.

Applications close on Wednesday 14 August 2024.
