University Research Awards 2024 open for entries

The University’s annual Research Awards are open for entries. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Friday 12 April 2024.
This year’s competition builds on the success of last year’s relaunched Research Awards and is an opportunity to celebrate the work of both research and professional services staff that showcases research excellence.
Research engagement, collaboration and impact take many forms and applications are encouraged from all research themes and associated functions across the University.
Entries with be judged on clarity of purpose, creativity and innovation, and clear outcomes and impact. Winners will receive £1,000 towards their next engagement activity.
The four categories are:
- Public engagement with research: this award recognises achievement in research-led public engagement.
- External collaboration and innovation: this award celebrates external engagement and the development of lasting and successful non-academic collaborations in research and innovation regionally, nationally or globally.
- Research impact: this award recognises individuals or teams who have achieved impact from research to address real-world problems and change the world around us, locally, nationally or globally.
- Interdisciplinary research: this award recognises individuals or teams who undertake original and innovative interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary research.
How to enter
Please read the guidelines and eligibility criteria fully before entering (full text version available on the 2024 Awards page). To apply, complete the online entry form by 17:00 on Friday 12 April.
Shortlisted applicants will showcase their work and the winners will be announced at a celebration event on Tuesday 18 June 2024 from 12:00 17:00.
Who is eligible?
Academics and professional staff supporting research (for example technical staff, museums staff, research services staff) are eligible to enter and the Awards are open to individuals or groups.
The lead contact must be a current staff member of the University, still expected to be in post by 31 July 2024. Entrants can be at any stage in their careers, and activities of any scale will be welcome.
The activity/ies must either be ongoing or have been completed within the last three years (i.e. since January 2021). Entries may be nominated by another member of staff or staff can nominate themselves in all categories.
Information about last year’s winning and shortlisted entries can be found on the 2023 Research Awards page. These will also be showcased in a posters exhibition from 21-27 March in the main Library foyer.
