Five UoRLearn training courses to try in 2024

If personal and professional development is one of your resolutions for 2024 then take a look at UoRLearn – the online learning portal provided by People Development.
Every University employee in every role has access to UoRLearn, which is full of hundreds of learning and development opportunities, relevant to every role.
These range from short online modules available on demand to in-person group sessions taking place over several hours or days.
If you need some inspiration, here are five UoRLearn opportunities you might not have heard of.
1. Introduction to Altmetric Explorer
This 90-minute session is aimed at researchers who want to track how much attention their papers are really getting, and other colleagues interested in measuring research impact.
Attendees will be introduced to Altmetric Explorer, a tool that allows you to track mentions of research outputs on social media, news websites and other sources.
The hands on session will show you how to use the tool, make sense of the data, and use the findings on your CV, grant applications or impact statements.

2. Personal Budgeting
This bitesize session is open to all and provides advice on taking control of your finances through personal budgeting.
The 45-minute online class is ideal for colleagues looking to save for something or plan their financial future. It covers budgeting basics, taxation and savings.

3. Delivering Excellent Customer Service
This session is perfect for anyone in a customer facing role, such as in Campus Commerce or reception and help desk colleagues..
The full-day, in-person course offers tips on polishing your skills when dealing with customers, resulting in a disciplined, professional approach.
It also provides advice on handling internal and external customers, and how to apply this in different scenarios.

4. Personal Presence and Impact
This workshop is for managers and other colleagues who are great at their jobs but might be missing opportunities because they are not able to represent themselves effectively.
How we portray ourselves is important as we progress in our careers, but this can be hampered by either a lack of confidence or communication being misinterpreted.
The full-day, in-person course provides advice on developing your personal brand and presence, speaking assertively and creating a vision for your team.

5. Skills for Administrative Assistants
This in-person session teaches you to work to the best of your abilities and encourage the best in those who work with you or for you.
Led by an instructor over six hours, it covers self-management to become more effective and efficient, and dealing with difficult people. You will also learn communication skills, including listening, asking questions and being more assertive
