Previous awards
The Arts Committee aims to promote all aspects of the arts at the University.
Recently, awards have been made in support of a variety of projects including literary magazines, choirs/musical ensembles, the display of art works on campus and a performance installation, as well as a wide range of events including talks by guest speakers and film screenings.
One example of a funded project is the Museum of English Rural Life’s 51 Voices project, celebrating the Museum’s 70th anniversary.
The Museum worked with community groups, artists, makers, museum volunteers and the public on an exhibition of objects and voices that represent changing priorities and passions of the past, present and future.
One of these voices was the Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra, whose creation was inspired by the first steel band performance in the UK, at the Festival of Britain in London in 1951.
