Apply now to help shape Reading's REF 2029 submission
12 January 2024
The University is seeking Unit of Assessment (UOA) Leads, who will provide leadership in shaping Unit of Assessment submissions to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, which takes place in 2029.
The REF is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions, and the results are important in reinforcing the real-world impact of research.
The role provides opportunities for successful applicants to:
- Apply and/or further develop research leadership, management and strategic thinking skills, and demonstrate contributions and benefits at school/division, disciplinary and institutional levels.
- Demonstrate commitment to supporting a positive and developmental research culture
- Work with a community of researchers and senior research leaders across the University and gain insights from other disciplines and approaches.
Applications are invited for UOA Leads for each of the Units of Assessment where we intend to make a return. A role description and applicant briefing are both available to support colleagues wishing to apply.
UOA Leads Information session
Colleagues interested in applying for these roles are invited to take part in an online information session hosted by Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Pro-Vice Chancellor Research & Innovation, taking place on Monday 15 January at 12:00. This session will provide opportunity to learn more about the role and ask questions.
If you wish to attend, please email researchdeansoffice@reading.ac.uk.
Application process
Colleagues wishing to be considered for UOA Lead roles should submit an expression of interest (300 words max.) explaining:
- the motivation for taking on the role
- how they meet the requirements in the role description and person specification.
Expressions of interest should be submitted to researchdeansoffice@reading.ac.uk. The deadline for applications is 26 January 2024. Interviews will take place in February 2024.
