Sustainable Travel Day: explore campus by foot or bike
21 February 2024
Join a nature walk around campus or a group cycle ride, and get tips on making your commute greener and healthier, at a Sustainable Travel Day.
The Sustainability team is hosting the event on Wednesday 6 March from 11:00-14:00 in the Palmer Quad, on Whiteknights campus.
These events allow colleagues to get advice and information on sustainable modes of transport and opportunities to make using these easier and more affordable.
Highlights include:
- Explore our beautiful Whiteknights campus, find out the benefits of meditation and see what signs of Spring you can spot on our nature walk from 11:30-12:30. Sign up online.
- Discover Whiteknights by bike on our campus cycle ride from 13:30-14:00. Sign up online.
- Win free travel with Reading Buses.

Sustainable actions
The Sustainability team runs regular events and sessions to support colleagues to make greener choices.
Its Our Future First campaign is focused on sustainable actions we can all take as individuals to benefit the environment and help the University achieve its net zero goal.
During January, the campaign focused on travel, with low-carbon travel options available to staff highlighted, along with examples of colleagues who have made changes to their commute or business travel.
The latest Sustainable Travel Survey was also launched in January, providing colleagues with the chance to provide feedback on their commutes and what would help them to travel more sustainably.
We will bring you an update on that survey and actions resulting from it in the coming weeks.
