Help out at Reading Pride
19 August 2024
The University and Reading Students’ Union will be returning to Reading Pride this year and volunteers are needed to help make the day a success.
Reading Pride’s Love Unites Parade and Festival 2024 will be held on Saturday 31 August 2024 at King’s Meadow, Reading.
Volunteers are wanted to represent the University’s LGBTQIA+ communities and allies in several important roles on the day:
- Support for the University stall
- Photography and videography for our LGBTQIA+ archives (experience required)
- Face painting and glitter support at the University stall (experience required)
- Representing the University in the Reading Pride Parade.
The parade will be gathering at Reading Station's main entrance from 10:00. The parade sets off from 11:00 and arrives at Kings Meadow at around 12:00.
The festival hosts a range of activities and entertainment with something for everybody, including live entertainment from cabaret and drag, music, comedians, games and karaoke, as well as a range of food and drink options.
Professor Allán Laville, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, said “Pride is still a powerful and vital event, allowing LGBTQIA+ communities and their allies to stand together to celebrate our histories, our diversity and the continual need to fight for equality. It’s a lot of fun too.
“It would be wonderful to see lots of people from the University community join us as Reading celebrates together, whether as volunteers, or just popping by to say hello at the University and Reading SU stall!”
If you are interested in volunteering, please fill in the online form by end of day on Friday 23 August 2024.
