Digital Accessibility: learning opportunities this May
30 April 2024
Two webinars on creating digital content that is accessible to all, regardless of ability, are on offer to colleagues this May.
We are highlighting these learning opportunities ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day on 16 May 2024, which focuses attention on digital access and inclusion.
Two webinars are open to all colleagues who want to learn more about how to make sure their content works for those with visual or hearing impairments or other disabilities.
- Tuesday 7 May 12:00-12:50 - Accessibility awareness for social media
- Thursday 16 May 12:30-13:20 - What is alternative text?
The webinars will cover how we sometimes inadvertently lock some users out of our content through its design, and the tools and techniques available to us to ensure we are inclusive and reach all members of our audiences.
All colleagues also have access to UoRLearn courses on digital accessibility awareness, which can be taken at any time and completed at your own pace.
You can also find digital accessibility resources on our website, containing guidance and first-hand accounts of the difference accessible content makes to colleagues’ lives.
If you require more guidance or you would like to organise an accessibility training for your School/Department/Team please contact WebAccessibilityTeam@reading.ac.uk
More guidance
Creating digital content that is accessible to everyone is important to our principles of being an inclusive university and to meeting our legal requirements around digital accessibility.
Look out for tips on how colleagues in all roles can support these aims, plus a survey to help us gauge understanding of digital accessibility, on the Staff Portal over the next two weeks.
You can also take a look back at our Look Again campaign content from last year for more guidance and interactive tips articles on creating accessible content.
