Learning and development opportunities this autumn
11 September 2023
Training courses ranging from thinking on your feet to managing in times of change are available in the new learning and development Open Programme from People Development.
The programme contains more than 30 sessions open to all staff between now and Christmas, all aimed at building and enhancing skills or providing advice on your career, pensions and more.
This is in addition to the countless online modules available via UoRLearn that can be accessed and completed at a time that suits you.
Highlights in the Autumn Term programme include:
- Applications are now open for places on the University’s leadership programmes for 2023/24: Leading Through Influence for colleagues who lead without line management responsibility, and Inclusive Leader for line managers. Closing date for applications is Friday 29th September. Find out more at a virtual information session on Thursday 14 September, 13.00-14.00.
- Pensions Drop In – the chance to speak to the Pensions Team about pensions questions and queries.
- Active Bystander – monthly sessions giving you the skills to challenge unacceptable behaviours when you witness them.
- Thinking on Your Feet – help to identify and structure your thoughts to interact with others more effectively.
- Managing Budgets – develop your knowledge and understanding of workplace budgets and how to plan them.
- New Line Manager Induction – two-day programme to explore your management style and scenarios you might encounter.
- Managing Through Change – understand why change can be difficult and methods for helping teams through transitions.
Carly Roalf, People Development Manager, said: “As a university, we are a learning institution and that extends to our staff too. I strongly encourage all colleagues, no matter what your role, to explore the free development opportunities we have available. There is something for everyone.”
Apprenticeships
The University’s Apprenticeships scheme is another route colleagues can take to gain new skills or experience within their role, or which managers can potentially use for recruitment.
Apprenticeships are open to all colleagues, regardless of age, role or pay grade.
An information session for managers explaining how apprenticeships work and how they could benefit their team will be held on Friday 15 September at 11:00.
