Join the Athena Swan self-assessment team
31 October 2023
The University is renewing its commitment to the Athena Swan gender equality initiative, and colleagues are invited to take part in a team to lead on these efforts.
The Athena Swan Charter is a framework which is used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research.
Currently, the University of Reading holds an institutional silver award. We are due to renew our silver Athena Swan Charter Mark in 2025.
Expressions of interest are invited for those willing to join an internal Athena Swan self-assessment team, critically reviewing our own performance and ensuring our application for renewal is as good as it can be. The self-assessment team will be chaired by Professor Allán Laville, Dean for Diversity and Inclusion.
Those wanting to take part should send an expression of interest of up to 300 words to allan.laville@reading.ac.uk. It should cover:
- Your motivations for applying,
- Previous experience in gender equality and/or Equality, Diversity and Inclusion more broadly, and
- Evidence of value and/or impact of gender equality work completed previously.
In the spirit of gender-balance and allyship, applications from men are welcomed.
The deadline for expressions of interest is Thursday 30 November 2023 and decisions will be issued by Friday 15 December.
The first Athena Swan self-assessment team meeting will take place in Spring term 2023/24.
