Tree dedication event in memory of Eleanor Draycott, DTS
30 October 2023
A tree dedication will be held in the Harris Garden to remember Eleanor Draycott, our colleague in DTS who sadly passed away in July.
Organised by Eleanor’s colleagues in DTS, the Women’s Network and the Reverend Mark Laynesmith, University Anglican Chaplain, the memorial event will take place on Thursday 16 November from 12:00-14:00.
Guests are invited to meet at the gate by the Harris Garden at 11:50 and will be offered a flower before walking with Mark to the chosen site.
Please bring an umbrella in case of rain.
Guests are asked not to bring other flowers, as these often have plastic wrapping which is problematic to dispose of in a sustainable way.
Mark will ask guests to gather around the tree and will then lead the service from 12:00-12:30. There will be the opportunity for colleagues to say a few words and share memories of Eleanor and lay their flowers by the plaque.
Guests will then have an opportunity to gather after the service at G03 seminar room behind Trilobite café in the Health and Life Sciences building for some light refreshments.
Support
Support is available from the University for those affected by Eleanor’s death. Colleagues can find information on the Employee Assistance Programme website (Login: URlogin and Password: wellbeing) and support is available from a range of charities, including Cruse Bereavement Support.
