New online training module sets out the University’s approach to safeguarding in our research activities
A new training package, available in UoRLearn, highlights the University's approach to preventing harm in research.
Produced by the Research Development team working with our partner NGO, Keeping Children Safe, this interactive training aims to reinforce the University’s practices for safeguarding in research projects, and to maintain a research culture free from exploitation, abuse, harassment or bullying.
In the training, you will hear from researchers and staff who share advice based on their experiences with safeguarding, emphasising that the principles of preventing harm apply to everyone involved in research, from the people who conduct and support it, to those who participate in or are the subjects of research.
The package has been created in support of the University Research Strategy, which states that research should be conducted with integrity and to the highest possible standards and in compliance with UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) policy requirements.
Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said: “Here at Reading, we apply the principles of preventing and responding to harm to everything. I hope you will find this training useful and that one of the most important things that you take away from it is that everyone has a responsibility for safeguarding, regardless of their role.”
Complete the Preventing Harm in Research training package via UoRLearn. It will take approximately one hour to do so.
