Help shape the future of healthcare in our region
15 November 2023
A rare opportunity to shape the future of healthcare provision in our local area has arisen, as a vacancy opens for a strategic role with our local NHS Trust
The University is inviting applications for staff member to serve as a partner governor at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT), starting in January 2024.
The University is invited by RBFT to nominate someone as a partner governor. Through this role, we can collaborate with the local hospital on current healthcare provision and future strategic planning.
The opportunity comes during an exciting time for the Trust, as it undertakes a bold programme of work, the Building Berkshire Together new hospitals programme, alongside the formation of a strategic partnership with the University.
This governance role is a key way for the University to provide valuable input on this major healthcare infrastructure project and healthcare provision, supporting our work in the local community.
Who can apply
Ideal candidates will have some understanding of the Health Innovation Partnership between the University and Trust. They should have an interest in health care and ideally reside within the RBFT catchment area. Some governance experience is preferred but not required.
The partner governor role involves attending monthly board meetings, quality assurance and remuneration committee meetings every quarter, and open board trust meetings every two months. Governors are expected to review meeting papers in advance. Training will be provided by the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and guidance on the general expectations of an NHS Trust governor is available.
How to apply
Staff interested in making an application should submit a 300 word expression of interest to the Research Dean's Office by Friday 1 December 2023.
If you would like to know more about the role and what it entails, contact the current partner governors Professor Carol Wagstaff or Professor Orla Kennedy. Both will step down from their roles with the Trust at the end of 2023.
