University Council nominations call
09 May 2023
Nominations are now open for the election of one member of academic staff into the University Council.
For this round of nominations, we are seeking one colleague in an academic role (Grade 7-9) to join Class 5 of the Council for a period of three years.
Each nomination should be proposed and seconded by eligible colleagues – in this instance, those holding a Grade 7-9 academic role.
Nominations should be emailed to the Returning Officer, Dr Richard Messer, University Secretary, by 12:00 on 18 May. If nominating on someone’s behalf, please clearly state that consent has been given by the nominee.
If more than one colleague is nominated, an election will be held in which eligible colleagues will be able to cast a vote (in this instance, colleagues holding a Grade 7-9 academic role). At this stage, candidates would be required to provide a short manifesto of no more than 250 words.
If an election is to be held, the University Secretary will ask nominees to each provide a manifesto by 12:00 on 25 May 2023.
The timetable for the elections is as follows:
9 May 2023 Notice of election
18 May 2023 Nominations to be received by 12:00
29 May 2023 Voting commences
8 June 2023 Voting closes at 5pm
If you have any queries, please contact Dr Richard Messer.
About Council
The Council is the University's executive governing body and meets at least four times each academic year. It sets the University's strategic direction, ensures compliance with statutory requirements and approves constitutional changes.
The Council is ultimately responsible for oversight of the University's estate, finance and staff, with much of the detailed work falling to sub-committees.
A broad representation of lay members, drawn from commercial, community and professional organisations, provide the Council with a valuable perspective. Each member commits to taking responsibility for the Council’s decisions.
