Community engagement in Shinfield
16 May 2023
Two new community groups will engage Shinfield residents on projects that will help people enjoy the outdoors and travel safely and sustainably.
The University's Community Engagement team is facilitating the groups, which will have their first meetings in May. One group will identify ways to improve footpaths and cycle paths in the area, and the other kicks off an exciting new project to build a community garden for all to enjoy.
Both have been set up in response to feedback from local residents on the University's plans for new sport and recreation facilities in Shinfield.
Staff are welcome to join, especially those who live in or close to Shinfield.

Community Garden development (Wednesday 31 May)
There are ambitious plans to work with residents to provide a new community garden as part of ongoing sport and leisure development in Shinfield. The University is already committed to providing allotment plots, but we want to engage the community in developing something even better.
Ideas include a new outdoor learning area, community orchard, school allotment plots, and more.
The first meeting of a new community garden group takes place on Wednesday 31 May, 17:00 – 18:30 at the School Green Centre, RG2 9EH.
If you want to attend, or would like to know more about the project, please email community@reading.ac.uk.
