Teacher strikes: what to do if you're affected
10 March 2023
School and college teachers who are members of the National Education Union (NEU) are set to strike on two more days this month, in a dispute over pay.
The seven strike dates announced by the NEU in January for February and March are part of a separate dispute to the University and College Union (UCU) industrial action involving union members at the University, although some days overlap.
The remaining NEU strike days for teachers in southern England this month are:
- Wednesday 15 March
- Thursday 16 March
We appreciate that some colleagues may be affected if their children's classes are cancelled or schools are forced to close as a result of teachers being on strike on these days.
Colleagues who know or expect they will have unscheduled childcare responsibilities on these days are asked to speak to their line manager at the earliest opportunity. Colleagues may be able to adjust their working times/days, utilise smart working arrangements or take annual leave.
Any colleagues whose in-person teaching may be affected should speak to their Head of Department/School, in conjunction with their SDTL, to discuss any potential impact on teaching and to ensure alternative arrangements are made for any teaching sessions that cannot be delivered as planned.
If you have any questions, please speak to the HR Partner or Adviser for your School/Function.
