Ramadan prayer facilities for staff and students
13 March 2023
Prayer space will be reserved for staff and students at the University observing the month of Ramadan.
The Muslim Centre (Archway Lodge) on our Whiteknights campus along with an adjacent marquee will be provided by the University for all Muslim staff and students.
These facilities will be available for prayers inside and outside of normal working hours. They will also include separate space for men and women to pray and wash.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide and runs between 22 March and 21 April this year. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and pray several times a day during the month, which ends with the holiday Eid.
Due to local planning authority conditions, the University is permitted to host current staff and students for Ramadan prayers, but regrettably we are unable to accommodate family members, friends and other members of the community.
Car park and road closure
To accommodate these facilities during Ramadan, the 10 car parking spaces outside the URS building, behind Car Park 6, and the road leading to them off Queen’s Drive will be closed for the whole period.
