Join Show Your Stripes Day staff celebration
08 June 2023
All colleagues are invited to a Show Your Stripes Day event on Wednesday 21 June, taking place 10:00-15:00 on the Palmer Quad and in 3sixty in Reading Students’ Union on Whiteknights campus.
This staff celebration and sustainable action event is an opportunity to come together and remind ourselves of the work we are doing as a community and as individuals, and of the part colleagues can play in the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
This event is again being held on #ShowYourStripes Day, when people around the world unite to share the climate stripes graphic created by Professor Ed Hawkins, a climate scientist at the University. Stripes for countries, states and cities are publicly available to download from showyourstripes.info.
Show Your Stripes Day activities at the University will include:
- Garden games.
- A group cycle ride around campus.
- Interactive stalls.
- A Greening Your Home lecture presented by Meteorology professor Jonathan Gregory. Sign up online.
- Tours of the University’s Atmospheric Observatory. Sign up online.
- A giant flag displaying the stripes for Berkshire, which colleagues can help hold up at midday to show our stripes together.
- Free ice cream.

Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort said: "I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all colleagues on behalf of the University Executive Board for your hard work and commitment, particularly during these challenging times."
