Car parking charges to increase by 2%
01 June 2023
Car parking charges on campus will increase by 2% from 1 August 2023, following a three-year freeze, with parking provision costs increasing due to inflationary pressure.
This annual review of charges was put on hold during Covid-19 with many people not on campus regularly.
Parking charges also help fund sustainability initiatives such as efforts to improve public transport options, and other greener travel commitments under our Sustainable Travel Principles.
What the increase means for you
If you pay for annual parking, the fees are deducted from your monthly pay, with charges graded according to salary.
Existing discounts will continue for part-time colleagues and those at Greenlands, who have limited public transport options. Blue Badge holders can continue to park for free.

The daily staff permit rate will rise from £3.30 a day to £3.37. The 2% increase will also be added to student parking permits.
A wider review of parking and parking charges will form part of a forthcoming new travel plan, looking at travel and transport to and on our UK campuses.
London Road pay and display trial
A pay and display scheme for out-of-hours parking is also set to be trialled at London Road campus for the 2023/24 academic year.
From 1 August 2023, non-permit-holders will have to pay to park in the Acacia Road car park, accessible from London Road, from 6pm-midnight on weekdays and 8am-midnight at weekends. The charge will not apply to permit-holders.
A fee of £1.50 per hour will be charged, which matches the rate applied by the Council in the neighbouring streets. A number plate recognition system will be installed this summer by the University’s traffic management company, which will manage the scheme.
Parking charges will still be able to be suspended during public events held at London Road.
