Parking during Graduation 18-24 July
10 July 2023
This year’s Summer Graduation celebrations will be held from Tuesday 18 July to Monday 24 July.
To provide adequate space for large number of visitors, celebratory activities will continue to take place in our Celebration Zone on Whiteknights campus.
We will therefore be reserving car parks 1A through to 4 on Whiteknights campus for graduating students and their guests. The Whitegates car park will also be reserved at London Road campus, where the graduation ceremonies themselves will take place in the Great Hall.
As parking for colleagues on both campuses will be extremely limited on these days, we ask all other staff who work on the Whiteknights or London Road campuses, and who usually drive, to review their usual working and travel arrangements for graduation days.
Work from home
Colleagues who usually travel by car and who can effectively work from home are strongly encouraged to talk to their managers about working from home on the graduation days.
For those who need to come to campus and for whom driving is the only option, there will be parking available for staff in car parks 6 to 13 and our halls, on a first come, first served basis. Please car share with colleagues where you can. Use the lift sharing tool on the Doing UoR Bit platform to find a lift share buddy if you don’t have one.
Staff can also use the free Park and Ride Scheme at Junction 11 of the M4, RG7 1WJ. All you need to do is park up and show your staff card to the bus driver. More information on the Sustainability webpages.
There will always be parking space in the main campus car parks for disabled members of staff who hold a blue badge.
Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor, said: "Thanks once again to all colleagues working or volunteering at Graduation to give our students a fitting send-off.
“The scale of the celebrations means parking will be limited on the graduation dates. I therefore ask all colleagues to assist us by not driving to the Whiteknights or London Road campuses on these days, unless it is really necessary.
“Other means of travel to campus, such as cycling, walking or public transport, are of course encouraged as always. Alternatively, if you can work from home, please do so, in agreement with your line manager. I ask you to please plan your working arrangements and meetings now around this."
