Earley Gate groundwork and temporary traffic lights
08 August 2023
Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the mini roundabout next to the Harry Pitt building from next week, while groundwork takes place to reroute a BT communications cable.
Four-way lights will be in place at the roundabout at Earley Gate from Monday 14 August. The work is scheduled to last three weeks.
This work was delayed from July due to technical constraints, but the new dates have now been agreed with BT.
Work details
The pavement alongside the road running around Harry Pitt towards the Brian Hoskins Meteorology building will be dug up to allow the cable to be laid.
All car parks should remain open but some space will be needed for works vehicles. An alternative pedestrian route will be in place.
The work will create some noise due to the ground excavation. Various measures will be used to keep noise disruption to a minimum.
This work is related to preparations for the construction of the new European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) headquarters on the current TOB1 site.
