New inclusive teaching & learning case studies
04 January 2023
New case studies from colleagues on how they have successfully embedded inclusivity in their teaching practice are now available.
Dr Charlotte Newey (Philosophy) and Professor Richard Harris (Institute of Education) are the first colleagues to be profiled, sharing what motivates them to embed inclusive practice in their teaching, and examples of the practical steps they have taken to ensure all students can be successful.
They include ways to include more diverse materials for teaching, and how working to remove obstacles to learning for certain students can benefit everyone.
The case studies feature on the Inclusive Teaching and Learning mini site, which outlines the vision for inclusive Teaching & Learning. Our aspiration is to be an environment that respects and supports the needs of individual learners from all diverse backgrounds and how this environment enriches the wider collective student experience.
The mini site also explains the holistic approach to achieving this vision, with the new case studies exploring inclusion in practice, a guide to common terms and details of how inclusion is integral to our University’s strategic themes.
We want to continue to promote voices from across Schools showcasing inclusivity in practice, to find out about your personal experiences to help us all learn and improve understanding of how to help students feel welcomed, valued and accepted in the classroom. If you have a case study to share, please email aaron.cooper@reading.ac.uk.
The successes we have had in inclusive teaching and learning will also be the focus of the first all staff talk of 2023, which takes place online at 13:00 on 25 January. Look out for an invitation by email.
