TEF evidence submitted to the Office for Students
25 January 2023
A major milestone in the University’s pursuit of a good Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) outcome has been met.
A cross-University project team has submitted our Provider Submission to the Office for Students (OfS), ahead of the 24 January deadline.
The TEF rates universities and colleges on the quality of their teaching, student experience and outcomes for students above a minimum standard. Successful institutions are given a gold, silver or bronze rating.
Participation in the TEF is now compulsory for all institutions registered with the OfS. A good TEF rating can help boost our reputation with prospective students, and the findings will help to shape practice at the University in future.
Reading was awarded a Silver TEF rating in 2017 under an old version of the scheme.
Next steps
The University’s evidence for the TEF 2023 exercise will be considered alongside a separate student submission, key student outcomes data and NSS results by the OfS’ TEF Panel.
The University will receive a provisional rating in July, followed by a final rating to be published along with results from other institutions in September.
The team would like to thank everyone who supported the project and contributed to the evaluation, including: the TEF Writing Group, the Expert Reading Panel, RUSU staff and Education Officer Oscar Minto, plus colleagues in Schools and Functions who provided evidence and examples of excellence from their own contexts.
