Microsoft Applications issue being investigated
13 January 2023
Digital Technology Services (DTS) colleagues are investigating an issue that is preventing some colleagues from accessing Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel., Chrome and Pulse Secure.
The problem is a Microsoft issue affecting users worldwide, although not every colleague at the University will be affected.
The issue occurred after a Microsoft update, which resulted in shortcuts on computers disappearing from the Taskbar, Start Menu and Desktop. This means some colleagues might be experiencing issues opening applications.
Microsoft started to roll out a fix on Friday (13 January), and it is hoped the issue will be resolved today (Monday 16 January).
Who is affected?
Anyone who has a University owned Windows computer may be affected, but not all. Around 1,500 users are thought to be affected.
The issue is not affecting Mac users or PCs in computer labs and teaching rooms.
How can I carry on working?
Advice is available online on a workaround solution to accessing applications without shortcuts (including Pulse Secure).
For any other issues, please raise a ticket with the IT Service Desk.
