Data Protection Day: brush up on your training
27 January 2023
Tomorrow (Saturday 28 January) is Data Protection Day – an opportunity for organisations across the globe to raise awareness and promote good practice in data protection and security.
The University’s Information Management & Policy Services (IMPS) team would once again like to take the opportunity to thank all colleagues for the part they play in keeping our University information safe and secure.
Information security threats remain a significant risk to Universities and the information they hold.
A key part of protecting our information is ensuring that all staff have the resources and training they need and that this training is refreshed. Many external partners and organisations that we work with also expect or require this.
How to check your training status
The University introduced annual refresher training for Data Protection and Information Security in April 2022 and it is extremely positive that a significant number of staff have already undertaken refresher training.
To find out if your training is up to date, please visit UoRLearn, and access ‘My Learning’.
From here you will be able to see if your training is overdue. We are very mindful that everyone is extremely busy, but if you have this as overdue, please complete the modules required as soon as you can.
If you do not have Data Protection and Information Security showing as overdue on this page, you are up to date, and no action is required.
Line managers can view outstanding training for their reporting staff within their UoRLearn manager view by clicking ‘My Team’ on the menu in the top left corner of the screen.
More advice
Additional advice and resources are available at https://www.reading.ac.uk/imps.
We would encourage all staff to refresh themselves on University Information Compliance Policies and to familiarise themselves with how to report any data protection incidents to IMPS https://www.reading.ac.uk/imps/data-protection/data-breach-reporting
In the meantime, if your school, department, or team would benefit from an additional focus session in any areas, please do get in touch at imps@reading,.ac.uk and the team will be happy to assist.
