Women’s Health Café returns in September
29 August 2023
The Women’s Health Café will continue its residency at the Library in the new academic year, but with new hours to help more colleagues access the support on offer.
The Women@Reading Staff Network hosts the monthly café in order to create a space for people to come together to talk, share stories and support each other.
There is no set agenda, but last year’s events covered issues such as peri-menopause and menopause, periods and other menstrual health conditions, experiences of going through IVF treatment, caring responsibilities and experiences of cancer.
Previously, the Women’s Health Café would usually be held on the first Wednesday of each month, but this year a new timetable will give even more colleagues a chance to attend around work and other commitments.
From September, it will take place at 12:00 – 13:30 at the Library Café on Whiteknights campus on the following dates:
- Tuesday 12 September
- Wednesday 18 October (World Menopause Day)
- Thursday 16 November
- Tuesday 12 December
- Thursday 11 January
- Wednesday 21 February
- Tuesday 12 March
- Wednesday 24 April
- Thursday 16 May
- Thursday 13 June
- Wednesday 3 July
The café is primarily aimed at women, but other members of the University community are welcome to develop their awareness of women’s health and support family, friends and colleagues with their health concerns.
Network members facilitate the sessions and can signpost further support, and take back recommendations to University management on how to improve the working environment for women at the University.
Attendees can also claim 50% off their first drink from the Café facilitator.
Further information about the initiative is available on the Women’s Health channel on the Network Teams.
If anyone is interested in helping to facilitate a café and/or set up a café at either London Road or Greenlands campuses then please get in touch with Rachel Thorns (Chair of Women@Reading).
