New policies on student complaints and equality
30 September 2022
The steps to follow to process a student complaint and the University’s approach to avoiding discrimination have been laid out in new policies.
Both published this week, the Student Complaints Policy and Equality Policy are the latest University policies to be developed or refreshed to make them easier to use, with clearer processes.
The policies outline the University’s commitment to its staff and students and what is expected from them to protect a positive academic experience and wider university life.
Student Complaints Policy
Working with RUSU representatives, we recently refreshed the Student Complaints Procedure to make it clearer and easier to follow.
The policy is a step by step guide as to how students should make a complaint, explaining the types of complaint the process should and shouldn’t be used for and how these should be handled to reach a resolution.
Further guidance on student complaints is available on the Essentials web page.
Equal Opportunities Policy
Our new Equal Opportunities Policy sets out the University’s commitment to providing an inclusive environment and to non-discriminatory treatment for all members of its community in all aspects of work and study.
It covers different types of discrimination, how these should be avoided in access to campus facilities, staff recruitment and training and student admissions and assessment, and the University’s approach to breaches of the policy.
These newly published policies and others with relevance to staff, including the recently developed Social Media Strategy, can be found on the Governance Zone web page.
