Upcoming changes to University Executive Board
26 October 2022
With the departure of Sam Foley and Paul Inman from the University, new University Executive Board arrangements will allow a smooth transition of responsibilities.
A new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) will be appointed to replace Paul, with a view to having them in place for the 2023/24 academic year. Until then:
- Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Resource), will oversee international recruitment and partnerships and our campus in Malaysia
- Dominik Zaum, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), will take on international research collaborations and funding opportunities
- Responsibility for international student experience and outcomes will be covered by Elizabeth McCrum and Peter Miskell as Pro-Vice-Chancellors (Education & Student Experience).
Sam’s portfolio as Chief Financial Officer has grown considerably since she joined, and so temporary changes will be made to our financial governance model while the best long-term strategic structure is decided. In the interim, Andrew Grice, Director of Finance, will join UEB as our senior finance officer. Andrew’s appointment as the senior finance officer will be until the audit for the 2022/23 financial year has been completed, with a review in the summer of 2023 either to confirm the appointment as permanent or to consider alternatives.
Given the growth in the scale and strategic importance of the University’s commercial activities in recent years, a dedicated Commercial Board will be set up to advise UEB on all commercial activities. The new Board will bring together expertise from across the University and will be led by Dominik Zaum, who will take on oversight of commercial activities from Sam.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Parveen Yaqoob replaces Sam as UEB representative on the Staff Forum.
While some elements of these changes will need to be confirmed by Council on 23 November, based on recommendations from Appointments and Governance Committee, most will take effect from 14 November. The University structure chart will also be updated to reflect various changes to line management arrangements to reflect these departures.
The changes to the UEB structure and lines of reporting are reflected in the updated High-Level Organisation chart.
